Athens, Greece At a press conference held Wednesday the International Olympics Committee (IOC) announced the results of a poll conducted amongst the athletes during the closing ceremony to determine which of the sports could be considered the most gay. The survey was co-sponsored by a group calling themselves Gays and Youngsters Emphasizing Teamwork and Yunity (GAYETY).

“We wanted to choose the sports that would give the most coverage to the gay lifestyle. To do that we wanted input from the general community of athletes about sports already perceived as gay. We want to start from this core and branch out into other sports,” said GAYETY spokesperson Hans Friggle.

Race walking narrowly edged out synchronized diving in the votes for the title “Gayest Sport in the Olympics.” At the end of the ballot a comments sections allowed voters to elaborate on the reasoning behind their choices.

Men’s volleyball came in third place in the voting. "I think sometimes when dudes play volleyball it looks a little gay," said Friggle.
